Where to live next year

Looking for accommodation after your first year can be daunting, however there’s no need to panic as there are lots of options open to our returning students. These include staying in a university managed hall of residence off campus (The Gateway and Viking House), renting a room within purpose-built student accommodation through a private provider in one of our off campus Partnership Halls of Residences or living in private accommodation in Lincoln through a landlord or letting agent.

Take time during the first term to consider where you want to live and who you want to live with. Remember that once you have signed a tenancy agreement it is very difficult, and sometimes impossible, to cancel so make sure you have considered everything and are happy with your flatmates and the property before making that commitment.

Remember that our University of Lincoln Advice Service can help by looking over your contract before you sign up to your accommodation.

Our Accommodation Services Housing Team manage our Studentpad website, which lists available properties and rooms from private landlords, local letting agents and our large student accommodation private providers. Properties are only displayed on Studentpad if they are signed up to the City of Lincoln Student Housing Accreditation Scheme.

Our property search website, Studentpad, goes live every December (which lists availability for the following academic year) which coincides with the Students’ Union Housing Fayre.

When can I apply?

Choosing somewhere to live is a massive decision, and it is important that you make the right choices, at the right time. From the start of the academic year, some agents, landlords and student housing providers will run promotional campaigns to get you to sign into a contract early and sometimes even stating that if you don’t sign up now, there will be nowhere left to live.

We want you to know that this is not true! Each year there are a number of student beds vacant across the city, so there is no need to rush into renting a house, flat or halls of residence.

We start to get enquiries about the next academic years accommodation in the first term every year. However, in many cases you have only just made friends or moved in together so please take time during the first term to consider where you want to live and who you want to live with. Remember that once you have signed a tenancy agreement it is very difficult, and sometimes impossible, to cancel so make sure you have considered everything and happy with your flatmates and the property before making that commitment.

If you are a returning student you are able to book your accommodation directly with your chosen development or housing provider. Most landlords and halls of residences talk to their current residents and offer them the chance to rebook first. Once the lettings year has officially started in December, you will be able to approach providers and landlords directly to book a room for your next years accommodation.
